Physical examination

  • Level of consciousness
  • Vital signs: SpO2, respiratory rate, heart rate, blood pressure, temperature
  • Use of accessory muscles of respiration
  • Wheeze, audible and auscultatory
  • Complicating features: anaphylaxis, pneumothorax, pneumonia
  • Signs of alternative conditions, e.g. foreign body aspiration
  • Peak Expiratory Flow Rate, PEFR, measurement, if available, in >5 years
